There are pros and cons to every paintball gun, and there are numerous different brands to choose from. Which one is best for your personal needs? Here are some points to consider before you make the purchase.
If you’re playing by stock class rules, you will be playing with stock guns that use 12 gram cartridges. In stock class competitions, everyone is on an equal playing field because everyone uses the same equipment. That way, no one has an unfair advantage because of gun differences. For example, electronic guns can shoot several paintballs at once; you have a distinct advantage over those who don’t have electronic markers.
Popular brands of guns include Planet Eclipse, Smart Pants, Tiberius, Dangerous Power, Tippmann, Spyder, Dye, and Proto. The “best” brand is an area of disagreement amongst players; it’s more of a question about which one is best for you. If you’re playing speedball, one brand may be more suitable than another. Some swear by Spyder; others swear by Tippmann. If you’re going to play woods-ball, you may prefer a different manufacturer. You’ll get a hundred different opinions on the best one. Usually your budget will dictate your decision-making.
With semi-automatic paintball guns, the marker responds immediately to the touch of the trigger. For example, the Tippmann A-5 Paintball Gun with Factory WAS E-grip is semi-automatic and is compatible with nitrogen, CO2, or compressed air. It has an effective range of over 150 feet, and fires one shot per trigger pull on semi-automatic mode. However, on full auto mode, it fires continually, as long as the trigger is pulled.
For those on a budget, a pump marker works by pumping the paintballs into the chamber. These can be just as precise as other types. An example in this category would be the Tippmann SL-68 Pump Paintball Gun, which has an auto trigger for faster firing and an ergonomic grip design for better control.
No matter what kind of paintballing guns you decide to keep in your arsenal, just have fun, practice, and keep working on your strategy.
